... a thrips. There's a gazillion of them at work just now, driving everyone bananas. I dare say if trout feed on things the size of Daphnia, they'll take these when they land on the water. Not easy, mind you. The overall length is 1 mm, so I reckon you will need a B400 size 68.

Note the funky wings. Not membranous, but like 2 wee ostrich plumes.

I usually find a size 64 is sufficient Col. The legs can be adequately imitated using shrew whiskers and a marginal covert of Firecrest will suffice for a head hackle.
Still struggling for a good dubbing material though. Guard hairs from the ear of an unborn water rat are usually regarded as standard although the collection of same is highly illegal in this day and age.
