The reason I asked is because we arent surposed to get them ( as they are never seen), I see the nymphs in kick samples though.
In previous years I had seen evidence of the odd adult in spiders webs. But so rarely I was begining to doubt my memory.
Last year the local service station late in the evening had absolute swarms of them all over the lights and counter for one night only.
On the night in question this year.. the previous saturday, we must have had a huge hatch as the spiders webs were chocked with them on sunday morning and they hadn't been there the previous dusk.... but it was one night only.
I then found out that they had hatched en masse on the Don and the Wharfe the same night and was trying to find out if it was just in a few locations or whether it happened nationwide.
I need to stay out later!

Pom ,
might be a case of up earlier,,when I had a town rod on the Kennet at Hungerford ,I would often arrive at pre first light .big big hatches of caenis but short lived.
The trout were rather keen!

We get big hatches here on the River Piddle from the end of May lasting for a couple of weeks.
This causes me a problem because I live very close to the river and own two dark coloured cars. The caenis land on the roofs on dewy nights thinking it to be water and die in their hundreds and if you don`t clean them off first thing in the morning the acid from their bodies will eat right into the paintwork leaving serious marks.

On the rivers I fish Caenis arent usually seen in huge numbers although I have seen some hatches of manic proportions . But this year none so far but usually any big hatches that do occur round here happen from Late July .

I would say round here either you sont see any or you see a hell of a lot...
