Default My Favourite.

With some anglers it is the Mayfly that does it for them. With others it may be Olives or Midge. Some love the Cranefly above all others. For me though, the fly I love to see on the water above all others is this fellow:-

Plecoptera? I don't know which one this is exactly, but I love him dearly. I fished a rise to a hatch of these yesterday - It was just unforgettable.

Alder, which is of the Sialidae Order only has 2 UK species.


There are over 30 UK Plectopera or Stonefly species.


Greek: plecto ~ folded and pteron ~ a wing.
