flyinghigh is on a distinguished road
Default Help identifying insect

Sorry I haven't got a photo of whatever it was but what I could remember was that it had 6 legs and the front 2 pairs were skinny with the back pair being very big compared to the first. They were black and were about 25mil long adn were black and had very large eyes and a furry thorax.

Any help please

Thats it Bibio Marci, I remember it had very distinct black edges on its wings

Yep, that's the Hawthorn fly, Latin name Bibio Marci. Named thus because of its habit of emerging around St Marks day, 25th April.
