Default Matching The Hatch

I really need to learn a bit more about matching the hatch & need some tips .There was the best hatch i have seen so far this season & the trout were rising on & off for about 3 hours. The problem was they wouldn't look at any spider i had with me.The fly had a grey mottled whitish wing & an olive body .I thought it was a type of LDO .I am thinking about buying a small book to take fishing so i can look up what's hatching.Any advice would be welcome. Cheers

I have ordered Pocket guide to Matching the Hatch & John Goddards Waterside Guide. Hopefully these will help. Cheers
