Default Dikerogammarus Vilossus

A.K.A. the 'Killer Shrimp'.

Lifted a small stone at Grafham this weekend with 8 of these clinging to it. The place is literally crawling with them. Largest one here was about 2cm. They do go much larger though.

Didn't touch a fish on dabblers, Charlie... or much else for that matter. Stangley enough though, the dabblers worked for me on Rutland yestrday... when the fish were putting the brakes on at the last minute and turning way from the silly big fry patterns, a change to size 10 pearly, 'Peter Ross', and 'Cat' dabblers worked a treat and ensured a good, solid tug

Just under an inch then?

Nice images; better than any textbook Dikerogammarus villosus shots I've ever seen to be honest.

Did you see much variation in colour and markings Scratch? They're well fed specimens aren't they?

Thanks, E. Just wapped 'em on a light-box to help bring out the colour, then pointed a couple of lamps over them.

Yeah, there was quite a bit of colour variation.. you can see a little in the ones pictured above. They're well fed alright.. so are the fish! God knows how the rest of the native inverts are gonna fare over the next few years though

Chuffing eck Rob, you'll be kick-sampling up the Eden next. Or rod-building.

They are big and I think a similar size to the little brown sea shrimp that are edible - I wonder if these are ??
