Default Lake dwelling caddis?

My research leads me to believe that the "Longhorn Caddis" is the caddis that I sometimes encounter. I am trying to develop a larval pattern but have not been able to find a definitive piece of information that includes the necessary details. I.E: color and make up of case, color of caddis itself, size that will determine what hook to tie pattern on, etc.

Have any of you gents found good info and perhaps developed a go to larvae pattern for the longhorn caddis?

Thanks in advance.

I think you are after the Holy Grail that doesn't exist. Most caddis larvae make their tubes from whatever is lying around the lake bed. Some use small pebbles others use dead leaves and small pieces of plant stems. No two are exactly the same colour, shape or size as this varies with each individuals species, age and preference; some might like large pebbles some small; some might like long pieces of plant others lots of little pieces. Have a look at the bed of your lake and make up a long shank fly using the colours you see. Personally I would go for something like this Case Closed - A cased caddis pattern that works wonders in the spring on freestone rivers in the northeast. Any river where these insects are abundant, this pattern will do the trick. Another great pattern that utilizes 3 materials. Also featured in and change the colours around.
