What sort of flies woud you be likely to see on the Irish LOughs about this time? Sedges or midge?

Am not in Ireland, but as nobody else has stepped in yet, I'll hazard an educated guess and say that you could expect both. Certainly, over here in east Scotland, I've seen both recently. Buzzers can be around all year and I saw my first sedge here in April! Best bet is to have some of both in your box then see what is/isn't hatching when you get to the Lough.
