Default A little poser for you......

Now then invert nerds, what do you reckon this is? Found at Haweswater yesterday afternoon. Broadly of r. semicolorata appearance, but much bigger - about the size of a brook dun.
It will be interesting to see if we agree.......

Using my years of experience fishing on the big waters, I'd say it was some kind of large upwinged fly?

But Mr Fishtales is on the money here, with what I concur to be the Large Summer Dun - quite a regular sighting on the barren lake district stillwaters as I'm sure Jada will be able to testify in due course.

Hi', Matt and all.
Siphlonurus lacustris yes, but not as common as I'd like it to be, cos I don't have a photograph of the beast. Once or twice I have seen a distant sepia dunor claret dun on one of the tarns of reservoirs, an thought I had found a subject to snap; but they have three tails and are a tad smaller.
Large green dun is just about the most attractive of the upwings, in my book. Look for a side view of the abdomen which looks like a row of squares, divided diagonally into two triangles -- green and black. Cheers, Ja
PS The big siphlonurus is also known as 'Summer Mayfly'. The Haweswater one probably came down the beck, Matt, were you fishing in Riggindale Bay, I wonder? Geoff Johnston and I once saw a Green Drake in the bay, and presumed that it had been blown up and over High Street.
