Default Stillwater sedges in April?

I was fishing the bank at Pitsford yesterday and was surprised to see two types of sedge about. There were a few small (15mm) green types, and one larger silver, long-horned type.Whilst the recent warm spell has brought the buzzer hatches forward a little I don't think I have ever seen sedges in the middle of April, or have I just been unobservant?

It is possible though quite early for large sedges. A bit more info could help determining the species. Length of antennae, mottled or plain coloured wings etc. 15 mm is quite large already, sure the larger one wasn't an Alder fly? They are hatching here at the moment.

The Alder is hatching up here too. There are also some small stonefly or needle fly that will be about at this time.

Definitely not an Alder fly.It was silvery grey, with mottled wings, and its antennae were about the length of its body15/20mm(on reflection the green sedges were nearer 12, than 15mm). I was going to try and photograph them, but decided as I was wading waist deep it would probably result in a drowned phone! They've been pumping in the past fortnight, I wonder if that has anything to do with it? The water (at least in the margins) has warmed up considerably since opening day- am I right in thinking caddis larvae only live in the margins?
