Spider is on a distinguished road
Default Sedge colouration

Sedges are a bit new on me, but after witnessing piles of them on some new rivers i tried last season, i'm determined to be ready this time around.

Many of the adult sedges i saw in trees etc were brown / beige colour.

It is fair to assume that imitating a sedge pupa with brown body is accurate ( ie colours dont change when they transpose to adults ? ) .

Also, what in general are the more common sedge body colours.

Tks

I would say Brown, Red (Fox Red), Olive, Green and Tan should cover most situations.

I think Spider is correct to concentrate on the sedge pupa. My experience has led me to believe that the adult has resulted in some beautiful imitations more attractive to fishermen than trout. That is not to say the adult imitation does not work, but I have found it more profitable to concentrate on the pupa.
Someone once said that most trout food is eaten below the surface and that is where I concentrate my energies. But I do look forward to the rare occasions when trout are feeding on surface adults because these red letter days stick in the mind. It also gives me the excuse experiment with the imitations stuck in the corner of my box which would otherwise be relegated to the large box at home.
