Fished yesterday ( sat ) between 9am to 2pm, conditions not the best 15mph northerly, temp just above hands freezing.
What can I say but what a day,23 and 16 to the boat, found fish in various places and managed to not even tie a blob on all day, from 11am on the nymph fishing was out this world the quality of the fish in this place is superb, no end of our fish were silver slabs around the 2.5lb mark With 2 around the 6 to 7lb mark.
Roll on my next visit I can honestly say this place is on fire if your prepared to use the more natural and drab aproach, the guys we saw were struggling due to the lures they were using, buzzers and nymphs are the meal on the menu right now, just find the clouds of buzzers, stop the boat, throw out and you can't go wrong.

Default Carsington Thursday

I've booked a boat on Carsington for Thursday. First time on Carsington this season (unheard of me as I love this place).

Anyone with any info on where the fish are as I hear it's started to become more challenging with this bad (sunny and warm) weather. Hopefully it'll cool off later this week and the fish will be up for it after being cooked for a week or so.

Unlike some people I always post a report after getting any info.

One of my bugbears are people who take information and don't share it.

Thanks

Iain

Default Carsington

That result will be hard to live down.

Thanks for the info.Saturday was a tough day was it not. Weather not kind.
The last few years have seen the fish move out over the middle in the warmer weather. It must be a bit cooler there.
The simple lure approach does work well at times. I think we try and read too much into what we think the fish will be eating and how we want to catch, not what will catch them.

I'll post a report afterwards.

Iain

Hi Welshwizard.
I'm afraid I'm not Welsh but Scottish. I've been down here a long, long time and love fishing Carsington. It reminds me of Loch Leven.
I am jealous of anyone whose wife loves fishing, that's the only thing lacking in my relationship - she hates fishing.

I've never fished Brenig but can't see it being any different to anywhere else. I've always found the same tactics seem to work most places.
First find the fish and don't chop and change flies until you do. If fishing a strange water, find out how deep the fish are and what general colours or types of fly are working. Then work out a plan using flies you are confident with and you should get a few fish.
Normally I would start with something bigger to draw some interest, montana, blob or cats whisker on the point, some natural looking fly on the middle, like a diawl bach, cruncher or something and an attractor type bob fly such as a small muddler, soldier palmer or similar.
Nine times out of ten this setup will get you some interest and you can then change flies according to what is catching or getting interest from the fish. You can also change when you talk to other anglers or watch how the fish are taking.
The difficulty on the bigger waters is locating the fish. It doesn't matter how good your flies are if there are no fish there.

Yours

Iain
