Default Tick Prevention Week - 12th to 18th April 2010

May sound a bit strange and only relevant to Pet owners but I recently spoke to a bloke who caught Lyme disease most probably while out Shooting and it is not pleasant.

If you look up the symptoms Joint problems is high on the list (and there are plenty of people on here who have had that) and I bet I’m not the only one who after seeing that rash felt a bit worried that I may have had it in the past

Its great that people are out there alerting others to this! Thanks Allan.

Its true that for some they get the 'bullseye' rash but not everyone does. So if you have any of the symptoms as outlined on the Tick Prevention Week website and have spent time outdoors recently do mention this to your doctor. The team at BADA-UK are excellent and attend all the major game fairs. They also offer advice and support.

Default Vis a vis 'ticks/fleas' on pets.

The buggers are a real problem here in Southern Oregon. Best stuff (costly as all hell though!!) is "Frontline Plus." Kills fleas/ticks from the eggs to the adults. Better yet, the stuff is water proof.

For best results put half he treatment at the back of the dogs neck, the other half at the base of his tail.

I used frontline plus all the time and its good now swapped to advancetick
and thats even better "for me anyway" as for the tail i would't reccomend it
i guy who picks up at the grouse with me almost lost a 9 month old puppy
when it was having a bit of rough and tumble with a newly treated dog " vet said the tail must have come into contact with it's mouth

Default Odd that Springers.

As FL+ goes directly on to the skin (and I assume absorbed by it), wonder why getting some of it (other than it was just applied and at full strength) orally would even bother the pup?

But what do I know?

Hi freda,
I know a self proclaimed spaniel trainer who put frontline in his *****'s and her 2 daughters food and he couldn't understand when in the morning on arrival at the kennels he found 3 dead dogs " fool shouldn't be allowed to have dogs" the same guy whilst attending a field trial got a call from his wife saying on of his *****es had just produced 5 pups! he didn't know she was in pup? and couldn't understand how it happened, as i said shouldn't be allowed to keep dogs.
