Default White stoats

I have a stoat who walks past my conservatory two or three times a day....since the snow arrived his/her body hair turned pure white....apart from the hair on its head and the tip of its tail it looked like it had gone albino....I checked it out on google and apparantly they can change the colour of their hair remarkably fast...........then I read that there is an old wives tale that when the snow melts they roll around in mud to darken their white fur because they cant adapt fast enough to camoflauge their fur fast enough.....
Yesterday morning the snow melted and the stoat walked down my drive and started rolling in the muddy puddles ..........I was moved!

Hi Bloke
I saw my first and only Ermine (so far) two years ago at the side of the river Till in March. Truly enchanting creatures and I hope to see more in winters to come.

My Ermine wasn't fully white....the head and tail tip were the original colour...cut yes, but deadly!

I'd seen stoats before but never as ermine until one saturday two weeks back in a field near Nicky Nook in Bowland. It was darting between tussocks of grass and was so white it was easy to spot in a way a normal coloured stoat isn't. Beautiful.
