Default How Long Does it take for Ice to Melt???

I am looking for some advice on time for ice to melt...

Most of the trout fisheries and lochs in Central Scotland are frozen over at the moment meaning no fishing.

I reckon at best guess that the vast majority have 6 inches thick ice on the surface.

The big freeze started in mid December, its now 10th January and set to continue till end of January according to the met office long range forecast.

Does anyone have any info on how long it might take the ice to melt once we do get a thaw on? Or remember number of days/weeks from experience?

I was wondering if it might take the same time to melt a certain depth of ice as it would to form in the first place?

Any info most welcome...

Bob

Depends on how mild the the weather gets and how thick the ice is. Could take a few days or weeks. Even a month or two!

Ice measured 4.5 inch thick at Tinto Trout Fishery yesterday.
No idea how long it will take to melt.

I want to get out fishing. I am off this week and it looks like no fishing for me. I am going to make some calls to see if any of the small waters near Edinburgh are trying to assist the thaw.
