Hello Everyone,
My name is Adam Brown and I am responsible for the national angling research project called 'The Social and Community Benefits of Angling'. The guys at Fly Forums have very kindly agreed to set this forum up to assist us in the research and to encourage as many fly fishing anglers as possible to take part.
This is a 3 year project funded by the Big Lottery and run by the social research cooperative, Substance (I am one of the Directors). There's a lot more detail on the project at
www.anglingresearch.org.uk and we're more than happy to answer questions and queries anyone may have.
The research is indepedent but we're working alongside a range of angling organisations (including the AT, ADB, EA, Get Hooked etc. as well as Scottish bodies). Reports and findings will be made public as well as presented to policy makers.
Please Complete Our Questionnaire!
In the first instance we're trying to encourage as many anglers as possible to take part in our National Angling Participation questionnaire survey. This has been running over the summer and runs until the end of October.
We've had a great response so far but need more input - from all kinds of anglers. Please either go to the main research website or click
here . And please pass it on to your angling contacts.
Assynt Research
The guys have also set up a new Sub-forum set up called Assynt Research which is to deal with angling in Assynt (Sutherland) in particular, one of the case studies we're doing in more depth. This includes an interactive map, information and feedback about fishing in Assynt - please have a look at that forum or go to assynt.anglingresearch.org.uk for more info.
Other Research
We're not just about doing a questionnaire study however. We will also be posting threads on various of the key issues - including angling and young people - in the research to guage your views. We also really welcome any input, thoughts, threads, links etc. that you may have.Look forward to reading your contributions.
Thanks for your time,
Adam
PS The research team - myself, Paul Stolk and Natalie Djohari - all fish, to varying degrees of (in)competency and success!
