Default Please sign up to promote fishing in the run up to the General Election

The Countryside Alliance has launched a Rural Manifesto which has been well received by politicians as we move towards the next General Election. In the wide-ranging manifesto, we are calling on the next government to include outdoor education, including angling, as a fundamental entitlement within the National Curriculum. In addition, we want a future government to fund and empower the voluntary sector to deliver increased opportunities for people to participate in angling and outdoor life. Our charitable arm, The Countryside Alliance Foundation, already carries out this type of work through setting up and funding initiatives such as Fishing For Schools and Casting For Recovery for breast cancer patients.

Outdoor education has proven health and social benefits for children of all academic abilities and adults too and we want to encourage more people to take up fishing. For an organisation that is occasionally accused of not being serious about fishing, the Alliance has invested at least £250,000 into angling projects over the last three years. We will continue to invest in, support and promote fishing. Signing up to our Rural Manifesto doesn't cost anything and will strengthen the chances of achieving our goals. So please, go to countryside-alliance.org.uk and click on the Rural Manifesto button, or call 020 7840 9242 for a Rural Manifesto postcard and by signing up to our Rural Manifesto you will be joining the hundreds of thousands who have already pledged their support.

Kindest regards

Rob Gray - Director of Campaigns
The Countryside Alliance

sounds promising. you can count me in.

i've been looking to secure funding for a fishing project which will be run by volunteers that i am recruiting now. the project's main aim is to get people into angling who have a known mental health condition or have a drug or alcohol problem.

the whole point of this is to get them more involved in meaning activities and we all know the benifits of angling. i have seen many 'chaotic' people rebuild their lives through fishing and hopefully with the right funding, we can turn more lives around

Default Big funding pots, little funding pots

Hey Burhan,

Thanks for replying, your project sounds great and like you're making good headway in getting it off the ground.

It might be worth checking out Natural Englands Access to Nature funding pages - they got a huge stash of money for projects aiming to reconnect young people and adults with nature. Follow this link for more info: http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/our...e/default.aspx

Also it might also be worth getting in touch with your local council to see if they have a funding initiative called Local Member Community Grants. These grants (if they're available) give local council leaders 10k to spend on community projects in their local areas - in Kent, this money has been directed to outdoor education programmes to engage dissaffected youth.

I'm not sure if you know about these funding sources already, but if not they might help out in someway.

It would be ace if you could spread the word about our manifesto to friends, family and colleagues because we need to get as many people signed up and in support of the Rural Manifesto.

Cheers

Charley

I am sorry to seem a little cynical. But as I remember clearly the country side alliance setting up from the field sports society deep in rural London. To protect fox hunting and deer hunting, and later, to oppose the protection of wild mammals act 2002
Then hijacking other good causes like the plight of upland farmers and genuine rural problems, and proclaiming to be for the whole of the countryside and ‘liberty and livelihood’. Which was basically a way of saying if you don’t support us you are against the poor country folk of our isles!

You used emotive and real rural problems and shoved them under the banner of opposition of the hunting bans.

You gathered financial, sexual, religious and other personal intelligence on your opponents, using data from sources including private detectives, political groups, police and debt collection firms.

Excuse me if I find you a bit sinister, and can’t help thinking your new ploy is just another way of whipping up a groundswell of backing and emotional black mail to which you will again firmly fix the figurehead of a return to hunting and disguise it behind worthy causes.

All those signing this beware. If you back a return to hunting fine, thats another issue.

But until they (the countryside alliance) assure you that they have abandoned that cause, then that is what your signature is being used for, and you are being manipulated.

Burham, WAG and EA have got some funding which is oriented towards angling and deprived communities. Could be a source of project money...I can get you details if interested...
