Can I refer you to my post on new national strategy for EA......with the advent of recognition of other user groups will probably come some form of licensing and financial input into the system......purely a speculative point at this stage ......watch this space

Default Revise water users

If fishing/ angling were in the minority than say for instance conoeing/ and any other water interest.

Would the licence be done away with?

I think not.

Why then do they insist that the money from licences does not cover the cost of the work done throughout the year, apparently a short fall of some 7 million.

Collect money from other water user interests and close this shortfall.

Why is this not being implemented there must be some reason, surely somebody could enlighten myself and every other fisherman out there.

After all we,re all drinking from the same trough except only one of us is paying for it.

Hi Canadakid ... I suggest you take a look at the Environment Agency Annual Report and Accounts 2008-2009.
  • Cost of EA Fisheries work = £38.9m
  • Income from Rod License = £23.1m

The shortfall of £15.8m is paid by the taxpayer. Yep that's right, every taxpayer funds fishing to the tune of 50p, we don't fully pay our way.

Its the same for the boat license ... that is a £13m shortfall funded by taxes last year.

I can see other watercraft helping to fund the deficit in the EA Boating and Navigation costs.

But why should watrecraft fund the EA Fisheries costs? Makes no sense.

Fairs, fair .. it thats your argument, then the Rod license should double, so we pay our way...
