Inshore fishing by vessels exercising their historic rights to fish within 6 nautical miles of the coast is having a serious effect on the quality of the coastal ecology in general and stocks of migratory fish in particular. I refer you to the pictures of damaged fish displayed on the website of the Ogmore Angling Association - Club News 2012
Our club is appealing for help in preventing fishing vessels from trawling within 100 yards of the shoreline, a practice which is killing migratory fish in the Severn Estuary and the Bristol Channel.
The Welsh Assembly is aware of the problem but as the vessel is exercising historic fishing rights a change in legislation is required to put an end to the practice so a consultation process has opened to examine what support there is for a change in legislation.
These consultations are very well administered and your contribution can make a big difference. If you fish the rivers of Wales or support the conservation of migratory fish please copy and paste the statement above.
