Thumbs down Disabled soldiers turned away

Hi every one, some of you may know me as the chairman of the charity Fishing for Heroes. Today I have been told by the owner of Donk Hill Trout Fishery that he does not want disabled people, ex service men or not on his lake. If our wounded heroes are not wanted by this man or indeed if other disabled people are also not wanted there should we as a community want to fish there either.

I would like to see a total boycott of his lake until he welcomes disabled people, please support us in this by telling others of his stance. Tony S

maybe he cant afford to build the lake to suit to disabled? maybe try and find out the reason behind it until you boycott it, i doubt many people would turn away disabled people just because they dont like the disabled, probably due to access or safety? if thats not the case then boycott away!

I thought that any facility that was open to the public HAD TO, BY LAW provide dissabled access. If what you are saying is true, the owner of this fishery should indeed be shunned by the flyfishing world. Thankfully, the reservoirs that I fish (Rutland & Grafham) welcome dissabled anglers with open arms and go out of their way to ensure they have good and safe access to boat fishing.

We would not want to take a disabled service man or woman into an environment that was not risk assessed as being suitable. By law if you are offering services to the public eg fishing facilitiues you must allow access by disabled people. In this particular case any risk and or insurance liability would have been taken upon the charity and not him.

hello where by chance is this fishery, but if the owner does not have a very good reason to do this i think he should be more wiser, did he say why??. disabled access to fishing, wheely boats, etc, are just as important to any fishery, i would think any fishing would be a great benifit to our forces personel disabled or other wise. in fact anyone to enjoy.

Donk Hill is between Burton upon Trent and Lichfield. The reason he gave was he did not want to get involved with insurance. Please see my earlier reply with our clients all liabilities are accepted by us.

If he is turning away people because they are disabled, he is likely to find himself in court, for contravening the disability discrimination act.

hello i just googled donkhill a small fishery for trout in derbyshire. i would think he should be gratefull for any fisherperson to spend money to fish his 2 acre lake, disabled or other wise, so i think it will be to his detriment if that is the case. i hope other fishery owners who view this forum take note!!! and would be more than happy for our hereos male and female to enjoy fishing their venues.
