Default Tyne Hatchery/ Pearl Mussels

I was watching the BBC news this morning and a article comes up about Pearl Mussels in England.(endangered) and low and behold it's tied in with the Tyne Hatchery. As you need salmon to be the host for the Mussel Larvae.some good shots of inside the hatchery and also of them realesing Fry into the river Rede.10am still showing as a news item.
Worth a google.

Jim

I watched this too. They were putting brown trout into the river which had the mussel larva. Lets hope it works as the mussels are a good indicator of water quality. Mussels live around 120 years.

I know they said Brown trout. But I would be pretty certain it was really Salmon Fry.

Trout will also do the job, Jim. I've found pearl mussels in remote burns in Assynt that no salmon could ever reach.

Yes I do agree that trout will do the job.But as the fry were coming from the Tyne Hatchery (Salmon hatchery)I worked on the Basis that they would be Salmon Fry.
