Don

I'm off to Turkey on honeymoon in early Sept, and have struggled to find info on fishing in Turkey. The best I could find is this:

http://www.turkishliving.com/forums/fishing-turkey/

Let me know if you find anything else as I would be keen to sneak a rod out there with me too!

cheers

Alex

Alex,

Thanxs for your help, I had a good look at the site but there's either no decent fishin' or it's the old story of keeping the tourists guessing.

I'll take my 10 ft four piece Regal spin and spinning reel, Atlantis Salt and pfleuger trion reel and might even smuggle in a twelve foot tele for the Abu 7000 multiplier.

The sea fishing from shore is probably the same as everywhere abroad i.e. prawns / shrimps on a float or ledger for sea bream etc,. which might get used as bait for the bigger predators, bread on a small treble off a bubble in the harbours for Mullet, bass poppers and lures for barracudas and bass etc., flees for bass type fish and a big lead ledgered at long range from the Abu / tele set-up for anything else that's going.

Will let you know how I get on. Which resort are you going to ?

All the best,

Donald.

Black Don,

I have had the unfortnate luck of visiting Gumbet over a dozen times, due to my mother living there a number of years ago. Now lives in Istanbul, where theres even less water.....

Anyways,

Fishing.... If you take a Dolmush (Turkish Minibus), to Bodrum, about 5mins drive away, and get dropped off at the Marina.

You can either fish of the Marina moorings, or the long wooden jettys, in and around the boats. This is where I had my largest fish, around 7lb!

Head towards the marina 'breaker wall', this is where the locals do 99% of their fishing from, and myself included.

I took a 11ft 4 Piece Carp Rod, and fished for Mullet, with Floating Breadflake.

However, there were some Locals who were spining for them and having plenty of success.

The marina is well signposted, in english, so you'll be able to find your wy round pretty easily.

Other than that, head for the Red/White Tower, near the breaker wall, and theres plenty of mullet there.

Hope this helps,

GC

Thanks 4 your advice GC,

If you know Turkey WE got Fu****. Booked Gumbet flying into Izmir Barrhead travel rep said 1 hr Transfer it was 4

Weather was amazing - anyone going to Gumbet / Bodrum do not fly to Izmir fly to Bodrum.

Read your reply over there GC but couldn't log in due to arabic keyboards.

Saw some guys fishing at the harbour but ended up doing mine on a boat trip in the aegean sea. Caught a few small fush on bread and cooked chicken
Small saltwater spinned lures would work well as would small raw shrimp cut off's.

Breaker wall looks good not enough time though.

Cheers for reply.

.D.
