No need to apologise!  The line where it starts is a mythical one, but there are two adjacent stones in Stirling labelled "The Gateway to The Highlands!" That is probably just Stirling Council trying to claim it for tourism reasons though!
Personally I think Strathyre is where is starts - glorious scenery round about there, as well. I have been living in blissful ignorance of much of the locations you mentioned. Would you be so kind as to reply (or PM me) with details of what you consider to be the most promising locations?
