off for 4 days fishing in late june undecided where to go narrowed it down to these two any thoughts and info would be fantastic although leanining towards assynt

hi m8, dont know assynt but I lived in Lewis for years, some great fishing to be had and a lot of it free to boot, if you have a look at islandflies09.co.uk there is some advice on good lochs to try.

Been to both many times. Lewis has many more lochs and is much quieter for trout fishing in that if you go to the South Lochs or north of Back you almost certainly won't see anyone. Assynt has become a destination and roadside lochs and the better known ones might have people on them.

Be more specific as to what you are looking for.

I have no experience of Lewis, but I assume you have to build in extra travelling costs? Assynt has provided an excellent destination for a group of 3/4 over the last few years, especially if you are willing to put in a bit of effort to reach out further than the roadside lochs. My avatar is on Fionn, glorious location for the wild trout fisher. Cam is another great one too. End of June is prime time, should be mayfly about and potentialy great top of the water action.

Me and my buddy finally managed to fit in a trip to Assynt last season. We were both impressed! Mind the midges were some thing else, iv fished all over Scotland and never had to wear a net before but without one it would have been impossible.

i was on lewis late may early june last year and by all acounts i was to early by about a month had a few decent trout but nothing to write home about i was not fishing particularly hard every morning and night for a couple off hours but my brother in law said they were getting more and better fish on some of the loch we had fished later in june into july and august one piece of advice i will give you invest in a midgy net honest you will not be able to fish and pray for a wind and a 4x4 would also be handy but there is plenty of lochs near the road you could multiply your trip by 10 and you would not have scratched the surface
