Default Belize flyfishing with Sweet Pea.

Hello Friends !
I am planning a trip to Belize in Febuary for a couple weeks. Placencia is one stop i would like to make. I am going with my "sweet Pea" and another couple.
Sweet pea likes to fly fish too and is pretty good at it for sure. I was looking at the "google earth" pics and it looks like a guy could do some un guided fishing right around there. Has anybody done this ? I will also hire a guide for a couple of days to do some maybe - higher quality fishing but to sneak a few hours in here and there what do you people think ?
Does anybody here have any other suggestions where i could also visit in Belize that would be a good fishing area that would also interest some folks who are "so so" on fishing ? Also looking for suggestions on fly's, leaders etc. to bring down. Thanks for your time.

Fishing Belize
You could book two or three days with these guys for less than the cost of three days in hotel!
would then let you explore as you will!

Yes, Caye Caulker was good when I went last year on a family hol. I found some decent fishing near the hotel I was staying at in San Pedro as well.

I defenitely recommend Glovers Reef Atoll, great for everybody, the big bones are on another island on the atoll but they take you there by boat if you do not want to paddle. Not really easy to organize but really worth the trip, very economic if you're ok with quite rustic infrastructure. You'll be rewarded by having the island for close to yourself only.

Thanks for all the info ! I have bought the airline tickets into Belize City and will arrive on the 6th of Feb and will be there until the 24th. We are going to use Placencia as a base to stay at. Not quite decided on all areas yet but Cayes Caulker and Glovers Atoll look fantastic to me !
Where i live its currently colder than a witches tit and its going to get a lot worse before it gets better- haha. The only way i can fish here now is through a hole in the ice drowning worms . Looking at that turqouise water and dreaming about the perfect cast to the "moby dick" of tarpon is quite appealing. Reality is hard water fishing is better than no fishing but.... I am going to start the countdown to on boxing day.
Thanks again and i will update my planning on here.
I really enjoy looking at the pictures from the guys who have alredy been down there. Hope i get a chance to put up some of my own !!
Cheers Boys !!

Hi Adanac1,

If you decide on Glovers and you can get a boat from there ( I'm not 100% sure it is doable but Mat M will know) you might like to head for Tarpon Caye to have a go at some nice sized tarpon.

Pete

If you do decide to go to Glovers reef, PM me.......
but you may find you need a guide off the main land for most 'decent' fishing oportunities...
But make sure you have some tiny crab flies for the permit like these, hard to get in UK tho... S.S.Flies :: Camo Crab
as for bones Gotcha's and bitters were my top flies
