Derek,
just noticed your post.
Stayed at Friars Carse a couple of days November last year.
Is some hotel for chilling out!
No juke boxes, no piped music, just eerie silence!
Is reasonable beat for fly fishing, you have about two miles of right hand bank, Dalswinton having left hand bank.
Is probably going to be clear, dropping levels next saturday(having looked at weather reports) Top of beat down to hotel main pool wil fish fly, however the main pool might be best with spinner, from there you would be advised to walk round corner for a few hundred yards till streamy water starts again, right down to end of beat.
Apart from big dub at top of beat, and hotel main pool, is relatively shallow water, intermediate sink tip should suffice, size 8 0r 10 flies, all with a touch of yellow or orange in them should work.
regards
bert

I stayed at Friars Carse a few years ago and was really impressed. We had a great night - great food and incredible value. Hope it hasnt changed.

The beat looked good too - but much spinning was going on. which put me off a bit (as they were not moving down the pools much).

Anyway, as a a hotel (and bar) I was impressed!

Colin.
