Question Greenland char fishing info

Hi,

Planning an 'angling trip of a lifetime' next year....compliments of my mate and his father! We like the look of Greenland for arctic char as you don't need to be the world's greatest fly fisherman...but most of the info I've found seems to involve rugged camping. Does anyone know if there are any more 'comfortable' fishing options in Greenland (maybe a lodge with heating or the like)....me, I'd sleep anywhere, but my mate's Dad is getting on a little.

Cheers

Dave

I've spent two wonderful summers in Greenland and really enjoyed the place and the fishing. The locals would spin for charr in the estuary but I liked to wander up the small streams. The streams I fished were green with glacial melt so not very attractive (to my mind anyway).

I was at Julianehab/Narsaq where there was an ok hotel - but this was many years ago.

Greenland is adventure fishing for the young, agile and fit I would say. Though plenty people simply stand on the shore and throw mepps as far as they can - and bring them back as fast as they can! (mind you seeing a V-wake following at high speed is really amazing!). The charr are easy to catch but extremely hard fighters - but then so are the mosquitoes!

Enjoy!

Colin

You could also give Jackie Simoud a phone at the Blue Ice Explorer Cafe in Narsarsuaq. He is one of the major outfitters with a plethora of boats to get you around and he has acquired the hostel in Igaliku too. His rates are also very reasonable. His website is here.

I would also state that Greenland is quite a demanding place! You do need to be reasonably fit and fairly well-equipped. As some of my colleagues put it, "Greenland eats **** gear".

The main reason for my visits over the past several years has not been fishing but I have managed some and you can read a wee bit of what I posted about on Sexyloops here. Some more general advice too!

Good luck with it - you'll have a great time!

Andy

Dave - have you looked into Norway. Myself and younger bro are thinking of heading there next summer. Have found a great looking spot where you can fish for Trout, Char, Salmon and Sea Trout. I've Pm'd you details of a lodge I've enquired about.
