Default ontario info appreciated!

Looks likely that I will be in Ontario for several months next year, from what I hear the fishing is great, heard a lot about the excellent carp and pike fishing...what about the trout / rookies etc? Is there a good salmon run? We will be near Lake Missisippi if that helps. Thanks in advance, K.

I used to visit my brother every summer in Toronto, my cousin living there was a mad keen fisherman. There are large and smallmouth bass in the lakes (need a boat to fish them effectively) as well as Pike, walleye (a zander relative), and big schools of crappie. There is the Grand river famous for browns which runs through or near Toronto.
Spinning or bait is most common, though fly for trout, steelhead and Pacific salmon is not unheard of. The last summer I spent there I took along an 8wt and caught bass on clousers.

There is a North 'Merican version of this fora; run that but 'our folks.'

Should be the same log in name, etc http://www.theflyfishingforum.com/forums/index.php

Kreid,

I live in Toronto. You'll be closer to Ottawa I believe which is 4 hours away (400km away).

If that's correct then there's very limited trout or salmon opportunities for you. However there's lots of warm water lake and river fishing opportunities.

Ontario is so vast it's hard to explain to someone from across the pond. We literally have hundreds of thousands of lakes.

Typically though you'll find bass (smallmounth and largemouth, pike/muskie, panfish (sunfish, crappie, etc), walleye and coarse fish (e.g. carp). Deeper lakes have lake trout, whitefish and brook trout.

Your best bet is to research the specific area and talk to locals.

The best bet for an Ontario fly fishing board would be hipwader.ca. However info may be limited as most focus on river fishing. Alternatively try either this
Ontario OUT OF DOORS Community - Powered by vBulletin
or this
Ontario Fishing Community Home -> General Discussion

these are the most heavily used general fishing forums for Ontario and probably you'll get help there.

Good luck.
