Czech Republic, a warning
I'm just back from a week fishing in the Czech Republic where I had a bad experiece with a hire car company called Vecar. They are off airport so brought me a car to the airport. Within a few miles there was an engine warning light on and the engine was missing. Eventually it lost power completely and we stopped in a layby. As they had driven the car some distance to the airport they knew the light would come on when the engine was hot but presumably hoped it would be ok. Only with the assistance of a passing policeman were we able to explain where we were. After 1 hour they brought us a new car.
Two days later I hit a rock at the side of a track and severely damaged the steering. This was my fault. They said they would bring another car at mid day the following day but did not turn up till 5 pm. I was more or less forced to help in the recovery of the damaged car.
When booking on their website you can choose to pay 80 CZK, about £3 per day for extra insurance which includes "accidental damage waiver with only a small excess". The Czech language version of the same clause is completely different. In the end the "small excess" was £460. If this had been clear on the website that their insurance only covered costs greater than 10,000 CZK I would have arranged my own excess insurance.
I do not recommend this company.
On the plus side the fishing was great, we stayed in the Pension Rybarska Basta in Rozmberk on the River Vlatava and in the Hotel Annin on the Otava.
Both are excellent places to stay and are "fisherman friendly"
