Living as i do in Scotland, i'd probably done all the easily accessible salmon fishing available throughout, so i opted for Ireland once a year and went to Ballina, and fished the Moy and surrounding lochs, albeit for a week usually, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Alas i gave up the frustration of Salmon fishing some years ago in Scotland after taking 3 salmon in one day (7lb 16lb 20lb) I decided then, that you don't get very many days like that and gracefully retired from salmon fishing on a personal high.

I don't think Ballina would rob you of more than your alloted funds for a week-end.

Wherever you choose best of luck.

Best regards
Jim

Perhaps a problem with a long weekend approach is that in Scotland I think most places prohibit salmon fishing on Sundays? That reduces the available fishing time but I suppose can be used for travel/sightseeing/hangover recovery.

You could do worse than staying with Tom & Jean Marshall at Fishers Cottage near Brechin - they can put you onto various good beats as well as guide/teach as required. The icing on the cake is Jean's cooking!! Have a gander at their website.
