Story of my life, with dropping water levels fishing on the Umba was not at its best during last week. 10 fish - but most were what I call dirty - I normally actively avoid catching such fish - most caught out of the 60 or so salmon for the week were in spawning condition - however a few fresh nice fish were caught. The lodge, its guides and facilities are excellent. They have had rain this week and it looks as though the catches of fresh fish have improved including some large fish.
Would I go again? Total cost including flights and gratuities around the £3800 mark. What would I get in Scotland for this?

Sometime we have the same problems of low level on all Kola.For example in Chavanga river that flows 190 km on east of Umba we have second very hot summer with low water. Salmons stop run into the river and wait cold autumn water. We saw some spawn colored fish in June! I hope that next years will be ok for us - fishermen , because fish can adapt without problems. In this situation we try to use all river and to visit another rivers. It was surprise for me but Strelna (next river from Chavanga to East, 50 km) had good sea salmon
run in the same period! In 5-15 of August!
