Default Cod Fishing in Norway (not really SWFF I know - sorry)

Hey Chaps

Has anyone ever fished Norway for the legendary big cod?

I am very seriously thinking about arranging a Forum trip within the next 6 months/12 months and want to start looking in to this carefully to ensure best times, best prices, best skippers etc.

Any suggestions and pointers will be very gratefully appreciated indeed.

Thank you kindly

Ben

Hi SKB,

loads of dutch people go to Norway for cod flyfishing. There should be some stories on this link: FlyFever.com - FlyFever Verhalen

if you can get them translated with google.

Ben,

The fishing and/or flights (given enough lead time) won't be the problem, but the cost of accommodation, food, grog will be crippling!
I was there in June and I was shocked at the price of living. On the last day I bought 2 tubs of ice cream (small) for the kids, and was charged 100NOK for them (over £12 )

Cheers

OUCH!!!

Hmmm, considering I am an ice-cream fan, that will put me off!!!

Is all the food costly, Steve?

Ben,

Yes, extremely. Going out, for just normal stuff, burgers, etc will be pretty expensive, say £50-£60 for 4, meals at a restaurant much more so, even modest ones like a Chinese one we went to, cost like close to a £100.
Self catering will probably be the way to go, but expect to pay twice that of what you pay in Tescos.
Hotels, we stayed in 3 star hotels, and unfortunately with 5, we were obliged by law to take 2 rooms, and were up for £250 a night!

Cheers

It is true what Steve is saying about living expences.
I am Norwegian, and live here..
Nothing is cheap, food in stores is the way to go. Eating out will drain your wallet. Just buying a beer (0.4L) in a pub/restaurant is 7-8 pounds, and a drink is something you don't want to even think of. Have you checked the rates of rental cars? You will be in for a shock/laugh:-)
It is actually cheaper going on a trip to the Caribbean than to Norway.
Tight lines!
