Question Reccomendations for fly fishing around Aberdeen please!

Hi all, I'm hoping to skive off fishing for a few days in the next couple of weeks & was looking for a few reccomendations for fly fishing near Aberdeen please! Probably bank fishing, but might spend a day on a boat too if you's can suggest anywhere good!

Thanks!

Anywhere on the Don for wild brownies, not a great deal of trout fishing around Aberdeen.
Barrio fishery is also worth a visit for rainbows.

Excellent, thanks! I'll have a look at Barrio fishery. I'd love to have a go at the rivers up that way, but Mother may not be up for it!.. Another time I hope!..

Thanks!

Corby loch. Contact Balgownie sports ltd. Bridge of Don 01224 826232.
Just checked my copy of B Sandison's rivers & lochs. Handy wee book to have. Enjoy your trip & tight lines

Lol Sandison's book is a piece of work all right but loads of the info is well out of date. Balgownie sports has been closed for years as far as I know. I wouldn't bother with Corby Loch, its rock hard unless you are well in the know.

The best of The Don trout fishing is over but if you like fishing rivers for trout its still worth a day. If you are going for this option send me a pm and I will try and keep you right.

Haddo, is boat and tube and my favourite fishery in the area. Beautiful place and Mike is an excellent guy. It's no longer just a rainbow trout fishery, it's now stocked with quality brown trout which have been taking dry's freely recently There are still some rainbows to be caught including some cracking grown on fish but no recent stockings.

Lochter is another fishery I like and only a few miles from Haddo. Its bank only. You could easily fish both of them in a day.

Aenoon's suggestion is well worth considering, I hear its hoaching with fish.

Thumbs up Re: Reccomendations for fly fishing around Aberdeen please!

Oh, decisions, decisions!.. Ta Guys, I'll have a good look at the options. Looks like there's at least 5 guid possibles for fishing. Already fished Lochter a few times this year, so Haddo's a definite possible! Cheers again for the info!..

Contact Sommers fishing shop just off Union Street in Aberdeen. They usually stock a free brochure on fishing in the Aberdeen & Grampian region- well worth getting hold of. Came out about 2-3 years ago, so fairly up to date.

There are a number of small stillwater fisheries in the area. To the south of town is the Logie fishery, just of the west side of the A90 just before you get to Stonehaven. The long narrow lake can be fine for a little stalking when the water is clear and the fish are chasing nymphs around the tops of the weed beds. To the north of town, towards Huntly, I have enjoyed fishing Loch Insch fishery a few times. There is a range of lakes here and fish generally of good quality with a few surprises. To the west I have fished Midmar fishery, which I have found to be generally quiet and pleasant - nice lodge with tea/coffee making facilities. There is also a fishery at Raemore, not far from the hotel of that name, although I have not tried it for myself.

Hope you find something worth trying.

Would heartily recommend Haddo Fishery, also Mike Barrio's website Fishingthfly is very usefull for local information. ADAA (google) sell single days at most of their water. For something different try either Ballater AA or Invercauld estate who have hill lochs and various bits of river at very reasonable rates, also Glentanar estate. Also lots of other rainbow water like Delgatie Castle, Artloch, Mossat etc.
