Seriously, take a turn off the A470 in Dinas Mawddwy go over the mountain road (snow permitting - should be OK in December) and enjoy some of the finest views in North Wales and after about 20 minutes you will drop into the village of Llanuwchllyn which sits at the top of Bala lake. drive down the lake to Bala and you can buy a day ticket for the Bala AC water on the Dee for about a tenner in the sports/cycle shop in the High Street and that gives you access to several miles of good grayling fishing. The Dee is less affected by winter flooding than the Severn and a check of the gauges on the EA site will save a wasted journey.
