Default Connemara & Donegal - advice please?

Hi

Off for 2 weeks in Ireland next Friday.

Having a week in Connemara at Rosmuc and a week in Donegal at a wee place called Termon, north of Letterkenny.

I'm looking for some trout fishing that I can dip in and out of at both locations.

All advice on locations, permits, licenses etc., gratefully received.

ps. Any likely spots for mullet or mackerel on the fly would be most welcome - pretty much everwhere I imagine?.... or not?

There's an endless list of good sea trout fisheries on your doorstep around Rosmuc. Costello and Fermoyle would be my choice. But if you want to stick with brownies the next village to Rosmuc is Carraroe. There's a lough there on the side of the road-stuffed with wild brown trout. It used to be free to fish and I bet it still is.

If you head back towards Galway a couple of miles there is a pub on the right called locally 'Kittys' (ask anyone ). Get yourself in there and have a chat with the locals. They will tell you all the places to fish for free around that area-many of them are boatmen/ghillies on the local sea trout fisheries, well worth a chat. Hth.

Chris.
