DIY Vancouver island or Cuba

I'm looking to get a weeks fishing on Vancouver island next year around April/May time.I went 3 years ago in the autumn and loved it.It's either go there because the flights are reasonable and hire a camper van or go to somewhere like Cuba where all inclusive is cheap.
I could swing the Canada trip with the family but the pressure would be on for Cuba.
So thoughts on both locations for April/May would be appreciated
