Default Cayo coco cuba

Hi guys, just had a report from my father who's just returned from cayo coco cuba. If anyone is visiting there for a DIY fishing holiday, try and get a guide.

My father got in contact with some guides before they went, they said no problem, see you at you hotel, or call me on my cell number, which they gave to him. On arrival they tried to make contact with the guides, but no reply and they never came to the hotel.

Not a problem my dad said, i no a couple of places to take us. Cayo romano flats, not a bonefish in sight. They did this twice and still no fish.

Tarpon was on the cards for the evening, pila point was the place they were heading to, had some great fish there last year, but it wasan't to bee this time. 2 miles before pila, 3 concreet bollards with chains, no way of getting through. They did manage to get there, but the walk in that heat was to much.

They went to paradon on the rocks the one evening. Not a mossi in sight, so they set the rods up, shut the car door and only to be confronted by 5 guards, no fishing, you'll have to go, there was no way they were going to let them fish. What a shame, they had all in all 10 fish between 10 men all week.

I don't no what there up to over there, but it seem's like they don't wont anybody fishing or going near these places. So my advice to you would be to get a guide before you go, thanks,

Isnt it amazing how you guys who post these items are affiliated to world wide fishing companys ,firstly guides at cayo coco arent at the hotels they stay on the main land and you can contact them through the reps, WHO WERE THE GUIDES YOUR FATHER CONTACTED ? PLEASE ANSWER , CAYO ROMANO AND THE LIGHTHOUSE AT PARADON IS AN ARMY BASE , YOU CANT GET TO CAYO ROMANO FLATS WITHOUT GOING THROUGH THE ARMY CHECKPOINT AND THIS HAPPENS TO BE CONCRETE BLOCKS WITH A CHAIN, I WAS THERE IN SEP 2010 AND BELIEVE ME THERE WAS NO SHORTAGE OF BONES ,THE GUIDE INTRODUCED ME TO HIS BOSS WHO HAPPENED TO HAVE AN ARMY UNIFORM ON SO MAYBE THIS SHOWS HOW YOUR FATHER BUMPED INTO SOME GUARDS IE SOLDIERS, HE WAS PROBABLY FISHING WHERE ITS PRIVATE ARMY LAND
STOP SCAREMONGERING UNTIL YOU HAVE TRUE FACTS ,YOU MAY BE PUTTING PEOPLE OFF GOING TO CUBA ,THE CUBANS NEED ALL THE REVENUE THEY CAN GET.
WE ON THIS FORUM AWAIT YOUR REPLY
i also await aenoons answer on this one,he knows the place very well

I no the place very well myself, but i'm just staiting some facts, they would not let my father and friends fish paradon at all.

Maybe the tides were wrong for the bones, who now's, all i'm saying is that when they went on the flats it was void of fish.

The guides who my father contacted before the trip were duniesky, jordan, and a couple of others, but i can't remember there names. I no they live on the main land, they said they would meet us at the hotel, i never said they lived there.

I'm not trying to put people off, what i'm saying is make sure you have a guide before you go, or you might find it hard to get under some fish.

Hook me line and sinker why dont you?!!
lol.
Still dont have any further real updates on situation, is still as has always been!
As you so rightly say, access to Paradon has always been dodgy for diy, used to be always chained and guarded, but not by armed guards, just old man his boy and dog! the usual 10 chaves did the business!
however access with a guide was, and still is, straightforward.
As to pillar beach/point, bus still goes there 10 times a day, so dont know what the chained off comment is about!
The guides mentioned are well known on island, indeed imho jordan is one of the best, but they do tend not to be reliable for a chat, unless you have made a firm booking with them, either directly, or through the hotel, you know the score there stewart!
Comment about lack of bones is definately down to wrong timing!
You also know the score there stewart.
they can only be seen at very specific times, which do not corellate to traditional bones appearance!
regards
bert

Where the bus would turn off for pilar beach is where the chain and concrete are, you can't go through there to pila point.

My father and friends got a taxi there the first night, and the taxi driver said i can't take you any further, he would'nt say why.

I thought i should let people no the situation out there at the mo, i don't wont to put people off from going, i love the place myself, cheers,

This may answer some peoples doubts, this is from another forum

i am thinking of going in mid october so mailed Alicia at the sol cayo coco who we have met a few times over there and this is the reply i got. lets hope it is right.
maybe you guys that go to guillermo might want to mail them.

Thank you for choose our hotel as your holiday destination. At the moment there is not a ban about recreational fishing in Cayo Coco. Also we have not had information before about this matter.

If you need further information you can contact me. If you like to arrange a fishing guide before travel just let me know.

Best regards,

Having trolled around many of the cuban web sites, including those run by government agencies, almost to the point of illegality!, is no forthcoming blanket ban on recreational fishing in any area. Indeed is no mention of ban on tourist casual angling anywhere.
Only thing i can find is a restriction of access to protected areas, which will actually hurt the big guns (Think we all know the names) more than the tourist.
Guided, or otherwise occasional flats/beach fishing in tourist areas will not be affected.
HOWEVER THIS IS AS IS NOW.
Cuban government is notorious for instant decisions put straight into effect.
My advice would be continue to correspond with hotels re situation, and indeed the guides you know, however in the medium term, aint no problem!
