Default Orvis Safe Passage Carry it all Rod case

Thinking of taking a trip to Montana this year just wondered has anybody used this piece of kit to transport their rods etc as cabin luggage outbound from the UK to USA. The advertising blurb implies that you just carry it on but I would have thought at 31" long it would be outside the size restriction for cabin luggage.

You have almost no chance of taking rods into the cabin on a flight OUT of UK. The last time I managed that was pre 9/11, I had Kaufman's bag that took 2 rods, 4 reels and all my flies. Those were the days!

Id go for a hold bag with storage for rods inside (or *******ise your own version with a piece of drainage pipe inside a holdall). There have been several threads here recently on just this topic.

Hope this helps.

Sorry for the slight 'hijack' but it appears (per posts on a major PNW fishing board) that Kaufman's have closed ALL their retail locations. Gone to a mail order operation only?

As Squimp says, you're unlikely to be allowed it on the plane, it will depend on the airline and who you get at check in and security.

Daft Rules that they have....You definitely will not be able to take it on a flight that leaves from any UK airport, however if you then connect to an internal flight in the USA, they will almost certainly insist that you take it as cabin luggage.....Totally daft, but true

As has already been said if you are flying out of the uk with fishing gear to anywhere in the world it has to be checked.
Orvis used to do a Safe Passage Rolling duffle now discontinued in the UK. Take a look at other makes of Rolling Duffle Bags like Sage or Loomis to name 2, just make sure you can get your rod tubes inside 4 piece rods will fit.
Alternatively use a length of drain pipe sealed at each end, or a model like the bazooka fishing rod case. Beware some Airlines now make a charge for transporting fishing tackle Air France to name one.

I recently used the older version of the Snowbee rolling duffel and loved it.

As with most of these types of bags, you will need 4-piece rods or smaller 3-piece rods (such as a 9' 3 piece)

Otherwise, as above, a length of drain pipe or sturdy cardboard tube.

I tried a Bazooka but Virgin managed to snap the lid off and then tell me it was my fault for checking it in Still, I had to forgive them as they still employ the hottest 'trolly-dollies' around

And they are one of the few airlines left that still don't charge extra for carrying sporting goods such rod tubes.

Default Re: Orvis Safe Passage Carry it all Rod case

If you have the cash these are "bullet Proof", if you find last seasons model you can save some cash. It carries just about everything.
