Default Trip to Barra or Lewis

I'm planning a wee trip at the end of April. I notice that Flybe fly into both Barra and Stornaway - that gave me the idea of heading to the Western Isles.
Has anyone any pointers on what the isles are like for trout fishing in April?

thanks

Barra is only a small island you will be better,to go to Stornoway, and you could fish in Lewis and Harris .or even think about the Uists

I have family in Barra so go there several times in the year. There are only a couple of Lochs worth fishing, Loch St Clair (Tangusdale) and Loch na Duin between Northbay and Greann. In April they are still very cold and only fish well for a couple of hours around midday, then they switch off. Fishing is free and only a floating line is needed. Average fish is approx 8.0oz with my biggest approx 1lb.
I will be fishing there this April.
Loch na Duin last Easter;

Barra is only 40 mins on the ferry from Eriskay/South Uist, Stornoway is a lot further than that. If it's scenery you want..then Barra is the best by a mile, if it's purely fishing then Uist is the best by a mile. Stornoway is more built up than the other 2 put together so there is more to do.

Cheers Diarmid.

They fly to Benbecula too which puts you right in the middle of the Uists
You can have some fairly grim weather in April but:
a) It never lasts for long.
b) You get fairly grim weather in every month on the Western Isles anyway

Many of the Uist/Benbecula lochs are shallow and will respond quickly to any warmer days. I have had some good fish and good bags in mid April even on days that have started with snow showers.

There are lots of lochs on Lewis that fish well in April.
In fact, the trout fishing on Lewis is just as good as anywhere else in the Highlands and Islands..........if you know where to look. A lot of the better lochs are kept quiet in order to try and keep the hoardes away.
Problems arise when it becomes well known when any loch is fishing well as hoardes of local "anglers" will decend on that loch and empty it.
However, for those prepared to look about there are plenty lochs (not always remote) that offer good sport with trout.
Craigie....Loch Leiniscal is situated beside the road about 10 mins drive south from Stornoway. Park at the cattle grid on the road and the loch is just 2 minutes walk away.

thanks for the comments folks - food for thought. its a holiday as well as a fishing trip - so baltic doesn't really appeal!!
I have a few other options so will maybe hit lewis later in the summer.

cheers all
