Default Danebridge

Hi all,
After a 2 hour RE exam a few mornings ago me, a friend and his dad decided to go on a trip to danebridge fisheries as a bit of day out. On arriving at the fishery it was obvious that it was quite busy and there were a lot of fish showing on the surface of the lake. After quickly purchasing our tickets from the cottage at the side of the pond we set out to fish on the road side of the pond. This was the very first time i had actually fished danebridge and at first glance it is a great setup with ever single peg having a bench on it which did serve its purpose well as it was a really hot day! I started off with a small brown klink targetting rising fish with no sucess really so i switched to one of my royal wolf dries i had tied up the night before and started to rise some fish straight away but i was having problems connecting as a lot of the time the fish were just nosing the fly and not taking it properly. The first fish i took was a 3lb8oz rainbow which didnt half give a good scrap on an 8 foot 5 weight! The second fish was taken on a shipmans buzzer casted into the middle of a rising fish's ripples judging by the fight of this fish it was either a large fish or a brown. It turned out to be a 4lb8oz rainbow which was quickly dispatched and set aside for my tea!!! Now i had caught my limit i was after a brown or a blue as i have never caught a blue and i wanted to beat my PB brown of about a pound. I started targetting rising fish out towards the middle of the pond on a detached daddy of my own design and after takin 2 more rainbows both around a pound i started to search for a brown! I managed to find a large brown feeding in a shallow part of the lake and after changing my leader to 3lb flurocarbon i set after this brown with a size 18 parachute adams of my own design. Within a few seconds of the fly hitting the water i had the fish on and it took me all the way down to the end of my fly line but after it was under control i netted it and took one picture with it then revived it in the water to fight another day! A damn good day by anyones standards!!!

Default Danebridge

Sounds like you had a delightful morning. I've not fished Danebridge for about fifteen years. I'd be interested in your opinion on the condition of the fish and if you would mind letting us know how much your ticket was.

Yes, it is at Danebridge, next to Wincle. I fish it quite often. We were all wondering what would happen as the owner died recently, but his son is carrying on the business.

Danebridge has some of the biggest and best fighting fish I have ever encountered on a stillwater. Last time I was there, I caught a Brown, Rainbow, Blue and Golden - quite an experience.

The downside is that the fishery is quite small, and if the best spots are taken, you can look forward to a slow day or in some cases, nothing at all.

Danebridge can be fishing well in high summer, as they have a couple of tricks to keep the fish happy. I had a great time in August last year, caught 8 big fish in 2 hours when every other fishery in Cheshire was dead.

And it is next to a nice pub, good food and beer.

I've fished there quite a bit and after hearing the tragic news about the owner, was wondering what was going to happen to the fishery. I'm glad to hear it is still going. It can be hard going if you don't get the best spots though, I agree with you there. I've never had anything really big out, about 4lb is the max I've caught there or any anywhere! All the fish fight hard anyway, so it's good sport, all through the winter especially.

The wooded side I never have much luck from, the corner round to the side near the track from the hut is where all the buzzer "boys" seem to fish and my favourite peg is directly opposite the fountain and casting right under it
The far side is sometimes alright but I never fish that side too much.
