Default lake district

can anyone give any info on waters
to fish near windermere.
we are visiting the area during spring
bank holiday.
i have a guide to fishing the lake district
but dont know if the info is up to date.
brotherswater looks a possibility as does levenswater.
both in my book say they are free to fish and full of
small wild brownies.
another possible venue is yew tree tarn on the
west side of coniston.
would i be rigth in saying that the fishing in both
windermere and coniston is a none starter.
would love to fish in these big waters via boats.
anyone tried it lately.i will be taking 2 novices with me
so the free waters are looking the best bets.
also any river possibilitys around windermere.
thanks in advance for info that will get us away from
the woman for a bit.
john

All you really need to know on here.

WADAA do a very cheap visitors pass that gives you access to various tarns and a bit of the Brathy/Rothy.

Other than that WADAA also have various other tarns/ponds where they sell days tickets.

Some of the WADAA ponds can get very weedy so best check before parting with cash.

I'm going there in a couple of weeks so will be good to hear how you get on.

KhKid, if you don't mind a hike then you gotta try Hayeswater. High up in the hills above the village of Hartsop. It's a near vertical ascent for a good hour so travel light, but if I can manage it on 20 fags a day then so can you! There's a car park (base camp!) towards the back of the village.
It's wild and beautiful up there like the fish, but if you pick your day then you should manage a fish or two. The front third of the lake kinda shelves off quickly after a few feet of a shallow ledge. Don yer polaroids,Cast a team of three traditionals (Bibio - Greenwells - Black & Peacock or something like that) across the drop off, stroke them back and watch for the beauties shooting out of the dark! Cast and step cast and step and youl'll cover one bank in an hour or two and hopefully charm a fish or three. It's exciting stuff and decent fish too. I caught 3 in as many hours on my short visit there - smallest half a pound, biggest 1.25 lb. The top end flattens out and shallows off.Given the conditions, you'll get a rise there.
Give it a shot mate. You won't be dissappointed.
I think the ticket is about a fiver from tourist info in Windermere.

I see you can buy WADAA day tickets online now from their website and pay by paypal. Great idea.

Good advice from Scratch and co. WADAA is a good site, also try my blog (link below) - this sort of thing is very much my 'bag'!
