Riviera Maya Fishing
I live in the Riviera Maya between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Most of the land between Cancun and Tulum is private property and, as you have discovered, has guards posted to keep you off. My suggetion to you is to go up around Isla Blanca, just northeast of Cancun. Go to Ikarus Kiteboarding on the lagoon, pay the caretaker 100 pesos to park your car and fish up and down the coast line for bonefish, snook and tarpon. The 100 pesos also lets you use their water for cleaning up and their hammocks for relaxing when you need it. Take plenty of misquito spray when you go and be sure you google Ikarus to make sure you are not fishing during kiteboarding season. You will find several miles of firm sandy coast line and mangroves. Fishing around the bridge at Boca Paila works best with a spinning rod using Millie style jigs like the glass minnow. I have offered a workable soultion but will end by stating that nothing compares to a guided trip. You really need a boat to get to the best locations. I hope this helps. Tom
