Question Ullapool?

I'm heading up to Ullapool in a couple of weeks and I'm wondering if anybody has been fishing in the area, and can recommend where to head to?

Cheers

buy an OS map of the area , pick any loch ,go into the tourist office on the front, and you will get permits in there,or i believe the estate office on the front as well, does tickets for the big lochs at the back of the town.brownies by the million,
i have had some nice seatrout fishing the tidal stretch of the river polly(not really meant to but nobodies ever bothered me)especially if its been raining.

Contact Duncan MacKenzie at the Sheiling guest house, he has access to some of the best Trout fishing in the area. Tel 01854 612947.

GM,

Some of the best hill lochs in the area are on Rhidorroch estate plus Loch Achall which is full of feisty small brownies and the odd salmon. I've had great fun dapping on the big loch.

Check out

Can anyone tell me which of the hill lochs, in the Ullapool area, are lying on lime stone? The web site for The Rhidorroch Estate mention that there are some but give no details as to there location.
Thanks ,Rod.

Default Ullapool Maps

Maps of the area are shown on the page below. Perhaps those familiar with the area might recommend one or two lochs to try.

Autumn Meeting 1960

Ullapool, 27 August-10 September and there is a bit about the Durness Limestone in the area.

The Limestone lochs are spread all over the area. One loch could be acid and the next one a few yards away could have a limestone outcrop running through it. The only way to find out is to fish them

As Fishtales says limestone/non-limestone lochs can be quite close together. From memory some of the furtherest out ones were limestone. The limestone lochs certainly have more beds of weeds (starweed?) in them. They hold some really good fish so its worth the trek. I took my float tube up a couple of times and had great sport although the first time I carried it up inflated on my back which was a mistake coz when I came over one particular hill the wind caught it and blew me over..I landed on top of it so I was'nt too damaged!
