Default TAFI Interprovincial Lake Rsults 2010

The Connaught Angling Council (CAC) in conjunction with Oughterard Anglers & Boatmen held the TAFI Interprovincial Lake Championship on the 11th of September from the shores of Lough Corrib at New Quay. Once again the competition was held on a catch and release with a minimum limit of 30cm applied. The day was blustery with westerly winds and the occasional downpour. 63 anglers participated in the event, representing all four provinces. The competition started at 11.00am and finished at 6.00pm with 61 fish caught. 1st prize went to Peter Driver (Leinster) with 4 fish, 2nd prize went to Hubert Smyth (Leinster) with 4 fish and 3rd prize with to Peter Dunne (Connaught) with 4 fish. Only 5cm separated 1st and 3rd.

The team event went to the Rosses, Donegal, the team consisted of Charles Kennedy, Ian Ireland, John Boyle & Daniel Sweeney. Leinster won the Provincial event, with Ulster 2nd, Connaught 3rd and Munster 4th. The heaviest fish went to Shane Callan (Leinster) a fine specimen of 57cms. Congratulations to those who are eligible to fish for the Irish Team, in either Slovenia (World Championship) or Portugal (Europeans).

Once again, CAC would like to thank all those who helped organised the event.

Well done to both Peter Driver and Herbert Smith on their 1st and 2nd placings for Leinster and for Leinster on winning the Inter-Provincial Lake Championship. It's the 1st time I can remember Leinster winning it and is long overdue. Also well done to Shane Callan (Leinster) who caught the largest trout of the day 57cm's. It's great to see youth coming through to the senior ranks.

Hopefully we can now the double in the Inter-Provincial Bank Championship at Woodford Fishery this Saturday.

Photos of Peter, Shane and the Leinster Team can be seen on the Leinster website.
