Default ENGLISH RIVERS NATIONAL FINAL

Fished on the River Dee 2/3 August.

New English Champion!

BEN BANGHAM of the Southern Federation. 21 Fish 5 place points.

2nd - Scott Nellins 20 Fish 6 place points
3rd - Bob Worts 12 Fish 7 place points.
4th - John Emerson 17 Fish 9 place points.
5th - Graham Lumsden 12 Fish 11 place points.
6th - Alex Bobba 12 Fish 12 Place points.

All six are the 2011 English Rivers team.

The River Dee was in fine form and proved to be a testing venue. There were lots of anglers in contention for the places which made for frayed nerves and leaders!

Best fish was a 43.1 Cm Grayling that was caught by Andy Croucher, Hector Rodriguez and John Emerson!!

32 Anglers caught 277 Fish for a 8.66 Rod average.

Martin Dixon did a great job in the organisation and son Mike doing the Results.

Thanks to Llangollen and Maelor for allowing the event on the waters.

Well done to all !

A big well done to Ben, { not a name you'd forget easily ... }.

Ben made a long journey North to take part in a tough Airflo Heat at Stonebridge................... and made it through to the final !

The Final came to the Dee for the first time, courtesy of the Maelor and Llangollen clubs who very kindly made their superb waters available for this prestigious event.

The Dee, like many other rivers, has suffered months of mainly low water. The competition was fished in very low, but stable water conditions as the Environment Agency had agreed to temporarily suspend water release to assist in showing the Dee to best advantage.

Many competitors found the fishing difficult in practice, bu the water conditions and warmer settled weather turned the grayling on to the dry fly. Over the two match-days many fish were taken on nymphing tactics, but the dry fly certainly reigned supreme.

Over two days the 4 beats in use produced no less than 277 trout and grayling of 20cm or more to the 32 competitors all of which were safely returned to the water. Many grayling in excess of 40cm were caught, and the largest fish were 3 superb fish of 43.1 cm.

Organiser Martin Dixon thanked the anglers for the superb spirit at the event, the Hand Hotel for being the perfect HQ, the EA and especially the two clubs who made the event a success.

The England Final will return to the Dee again in August 2011 interested in taking part should contact Martin Dixon at martin.dixon@hotmail.co.uk or their local CEFF organiser.
The top 15 anglers were as follows:
