Fell at the first hurdle yesterday. Only one rise for the whole day after fishing dries all morning and wets all day. We never saw a natural rise or a trout to jump all day. It goes down as the hardest day I ever spent on the lake. The vast majority of anglers rose 0-2 keepers for the day in what were nice fishing conditions. About 30% of the anglers caught fish. 1.32lb was the cut off weight for getting into the final, and the winning catches were 2 trout for 5.6lb, 2 trout for 5.5lb and third was 1 trout for 5.17lb. No idea who caught them, did not regognise anyone that did well.

Best of Luck to Mary my sis who made it through and to my brother Patrick and my mother who are out trashing today in a nice southerly storm.

I am looking forward to next year already.....hopefully it will be nice and calm for the week

Thanks Dooras for the tips and enjoy Morocco.....still goes down as been under the thumb in my boat, a woman bringing you away on holidays during fishing time.......

To Ger my boatman a big thanks, tried his very best and I hope you catch a few on Sunday

I was at the weigh in this evening. Most anglers had a difficult day by the sound
of it

Lots of good fish though.2lb+ and 1st and 2nd very close.Frank Reilly 2nd with 4
fish over 6lb.First also had 4 fish over 6lb!!

I think 1.50 was the cut off point.

Hard luck JB,sounds like you had a tough day.Sorry my advice was not much use!!
Thanks for the report.Headin off tommorow!!!keep me updated

Thanks Bahbah....I am having a real stinker of a year at the comps but it might all change when I get to Menteith

I am still waiting for all those killer patterns....do you not know my address???

Flies that caught fish on Mask include, golden olive bumble, green peters, sedges, octopus, stimulators....basically the bog standard patterns, its not the flies or the place in my opinion, for the small amount of fish that are moving, you could not say that they are feeding on anything in particular.

Its just a question of getting one or two rises and hoping that they will take. I still believe that it will be won at the inishowen rocks......

Fished today's heat. One of the roughest days I have spent on Mask in a long time. Boats were held back for half hour this morning until the safety boat could get out for a look at the conditions. We were eventually let out and I managed two fish for 3.24lb and qualified for the final on Monday. The heat was won with four fish for seven pound something, cant remember the exact weight and the heaviest fish was 3.6lb. A tough day with most anglers only getting a few chances and if you were lucky enough to hook them then you were in with a chance.
Looking forward to Monday, just hope the wind drops a bit.
