Well done gents, you definatley did better than I did!!
Nailed them in practice on Thursday although I didn't find the shoals that were in Tower bay/quarry and the entrance to the brenig arm (cheers for that Robroy!!)
I managed 2 fish by 10.20am on Friday at the quarry then didn't get another touch all day! I fished with with Gareth Hodgson-Roberts who finished 2nd with 9 fish (5 of which he should put down to my homework skills!! LOL)
Black straggle booby on the top dropper, coral booby on the point and 2 cormorants on the droppers were his successful flies all on a cortland blue. Fish were in the top 6-12 inches of water but tight into the bank. I was on the pointy bit/non engine side of the boat and I couldn't get my flies close enough to the bank with a SW wind (that's my excuse anyway!!)
I was very disappointed that only the top 2 anglers qualified outright. Once I was 6-2 down I decided to target the better quality fish on dries as I knew I was out of the running for the top 2 places with a hope of scraping through on a wild card biggest fish.
Quality of the fish was poor aswell. Gareth's 4 fish kill weighed in at 4lbs with 3 of his 4 fish just scraping in at 12 inches. My mate put 3 back that were under sized.
Anyway, well done to the 3 who qualified. I've got one more chance of qualification at Draycote on the 8th August.
