The Welsh Ambulance Service held it's first competition of the year today at Valley Dam Fishery in Powys.
In difficult cold conditions, at a fishery that has been closed since September 30th and was last stocked in August 2010 the best bag of the day went to forum member Ian Williams (Moscow Dog).
The fishery was under 12 inches of ice for 7 weeks over the winter with the lowest temperature of -18c recorded. the hard winter made no difference to the stock with many nice overwintered rainbows coming to the scales.
Best methods were slow sunken line tactics.
Irishman Martin Mulholland , who would be normally be more at home on a wild Irish Loch than a 2 acre stillwater, looked favourite to take the top prize with an hour to go but a late surge saw Ian Williams take a 1 fish lead going into the final session. A dropped fish at the net by Martin in the last 20 minutes was to prove vital as Ian took top honours with a 1 fish difference.
The Competition was Fished to a 3 fish limit plus C+R. Results as follows:
1st Ian Williams (Moscow Dog)
2nd Martin Mulholland
3rd Derek Duckett (Del Boy)
Heaviest fish (and sweepstake winner) Glen Duckett.
Special thanks go to Valley Dam Owner Brian Earp for specially opening for us in order for the competition to take place.
Well done Moscow.
