It fished as well as could be expected considering the wind shifted 180 degrees overnight and then dropped off to almost nothing on the day.

Top rod was Richard Hood with 5, with a few ones, twos and threes and a fair amount of blanks (brownies didn't count).

I was blanking at 4.00pm and had two and dropped two in the last hour.

I had a very difficult but enjoyable day, with Andy Dunn who sneaked a decent fish last chuck to win best fish and push his team into third spot. Well done Andy - good angling mate.

report off Stocks website below:

The conditions suited nymphing and indeed it was this method that produced the best bag of the day. Richard Hood caught all five of his fish on hare’s ears fished very slowly on a floating line. His boat partner Laurie Taylor also tempted five fish but had to return one brownie which gave richard the edge. Their best area was The Northern Shallows towards Willow Island. Many other angers did well in this area, but there were quite alot of brownies caught they seemed to be feeding on mountian minnows in the shallows. Hollins Bay, Gull Island and The Alders were all hot spots and minkies also accounted for more than their fair share of trout. Team Sunburst angler James Fairly was the other angler that took 5 trout but unfortunatly for him four of them were browns one of which was around the double figure mark. No good in the match but a beautiful fish to catch and release to fight another day. It was great to see all the guys down from Scotland they helped to make a great day at and at the end 36 anglers had caught 71 trout 50 of which were rainbows or blues the results were as follows:

1st: Hungry Trout: Alec McEwan, Laurie Taylor, Jock Kettles, Derek Simpson: 10 trout for 23lbs 5oz
Prize: £800 tackle voucher

2nd: Stocks Barracudas: John Hood, Richard Hood, Peter Scholes , Tom Bird: 7 trout for 16lbs 9oz
Prize: £600 tackle voucher

3rd: Change Fly Fishers: Jim Crawford, Willie Leach, Andy Dunn, Andy Everett: 6 trout for 13lbs 13oz
Prize: 4x Koma Casset Reels

4th: Sunburst B: Alistair Keir, George Brown, Tom Boner, : 6 trout for 12lbs 13oz

5th: Stocks Hawks: Billy Thompson, Derek Moore, Steele, Dermot Speight: 5 trout 12lbs 1oz

Sport: It was a beautiful day at stocks, the sky was clear, the wind had switched around to the north but remained very light. It was the perfect day to host the Rio 4’s fly fishing championships. Nine teams of four anglers took to the water to try and become the 2010 champions. As champions they would have the pleasure of spending £800 on the range of the leading brands from Guide Fly Fishing such as Vision, Reddington, Rio, C&F Design, Lamson to name just a few. As browns are now out of season they were not allowed so it was rainbows and blues that were the all important fish. Team Sunburst angler James Fairly took 5 trout but unfortunatly for him four of them were browns one of which was around the double figure mark. No good in the match but a beautiful fish to catch and release to fight another day. Frank Gourley was the fourth angler to catch 5 trout, he took 3 rainbows and blues from Bell Point and two browns from Willow Island. It was great to see all the guys down from Scotland they helped to make a great day at and at the end 36 anglers had caught 71 trout 50 of which were rainbows or blues the results were as follows:
