mikedixon18 is on a distinguished road
Default England Rivers Team – Midlands Heat

After many weeks of high water and one postponement, the above went ahead on the Maelor beats of the Dee on 28th January.

The river was still very high, but clear, and the grayling duly put in an appearance. Every angler took fish, and the rod average was 5.5.

The winner Phil Dixon took 18 grayling. He countered the high water with a Czech nymphing technique using a very heavy “sacrifical” fly to get his lighter catching flies to the grayling. Most of his fish took a simple hares ear pattern with a small copper tungsten bead.

The top 5 anglers were as below;

Phil Dixon (Woodville) –18 fish – 3 Place points
Martin Dixon (Crewe - 8 fish – 4 Place points
Gary Hedges (Wem) -10 fish – 4 Place points
Dave Critchlow (Stoke) - 8 fish – 4 Place points
Clive Chatwin (Nuneaton) -6 fish – 5 Place points
